The Penge 10
At Harris Primary Academy Kent House, we are proud of our local community and committed to ensuring that every child develops the knowledge, experiences and confidence they need to succeed in life.
A key part of this commitment is our focus on cultural capital. As part of our curriculum, all pupils take part in “The Penge 10” before they leave us at the end of Year 6. These carefully selected experiences are rooted in our local area and ensure that every child, regardless of background, gains access to high quality real world learning opportunities.
The Penge 10 is designed to broaden pupils’ horizons, build independence and develop the essential knowledge and life skills that prepare children for their next stage of education and beyond. Each experience is carefully planned and linked to learning in the classroom, supporting pupils’ personal development, confidence and understanding of the world around them.
Every child will experience each of the Penge 10 at least once during their time at Kent House, ensuring equity, inclusion and shared experiences for all pupils.
The Penge 10 includes:
- Posting a letter at a local post box
- Visiting the fire station
- Travelling by bus
- Using the London Underground
- Travelling by train
- Visiting the Horniman Museum
- Exploring Crystal Palace Park
- Exploring Beckenham Place Park
- Attending a theatre performance
- Visiting the local library
Through these experiences, children develop practical life skills, cultural awareness and a strong sense of belonging. This approach directly supports pupils’ personal development, helping them to become confident, curious and respectful individuals who are well prepared for life in modern Britain.

We are proud that the Penge 10 ensures all children leave Kent House with shared experiences, enriched cultural understanding and the confidence to engage positively with the world around them.
