The Governing Body

Welcome to the section of the website where you can find out more about our governors. Our Chairperson, Mrs Susan Head can be contacted via the main school office.

The main role for governors is to support the Principal and staff – the phrase often used to describe this role is ‘a critical friend’. We help them to set and reach targets and to strive for excellence across the whole spectrum of academy life. The two key documents used for this are the Academy Improvement Plan and the Summary Self Evaluation Form (SEF). The AIP sets out our strategic plan for the school, with targets that everyone works towards and the SEF sets out how well the school is doing and where we aim to make improvements.

Governors also fulfil a range of legal duties including:

  • setting strategic direction, policies and objectives
  • approving the budget
  • monitoring the progress and impact  of the AIP
  • appointing, challenging and supporting the Principal
  • safeguarding duty
  • performance review

The Governing Body of Harris Primary Academy Kent House

The Academy is a member of the Harris Federation. Ultimate responsibility for the Academy rests with the Board of Trustees of the Federation, (Federation governance details and scheme of delegation can be found here), but much of the work of the Board is delegated to the Local Governing Body (the Governors of the Academy). Some Governors are appointed by the Federation whilst others are elected by parents or guardians of students at the Academy or by staff. The details of the Governors at Harris Primary Kent House are shown below.

The full Governing Body meets once every term. At this meeting, the Principal reports to all governors about learning, progress, staffing, financial and premises matters. There is a small group responsible for financial management who with the Business Manager, keep an eye on school finances between our termly governor meetings. All governors are informed about what happens at these monthly finance meetings.

There are several categories of governor, appointed by different groups that have an interest in the school including from the community, parents and staff. All governors have equal status, however they are appointed.

The Chair of the Academy Governing Body at Harris Primary Academy Kent House is Mrs Susan Head

The Governor responsible for Safeguarding is Mrs Lynn Marston

If you wish to contact the governing body, please contact the Academy on 0208 402 7178 or info@harrisprimaryacademykenthouse.org.uk
