British Values

Through the teaching of PSHE, we enable students to develop their self-knowledge, self-esteem and self-confidence as well as encourage them to respect each other and other’s opinions. Pur PSHE lessons provoke the discussions around right and wrong, taking responsibility, how we contribute to society and how we are tolerant of each other and our cultural traditions. We actively promote tolerance and understanding of different cultures and faiths. Topical items are also discussed in assemblies (e.g. elections, giving to the local foodbank during harvest time, celebrating Black History Month)

Through our curriculum, British Values are taught by:

  • ‘How Britain came to be’ in Years 3-5 (Stone Age and the subsequent Roman, Anglo-Saxon and Viking invasion of Britain)
  • Early Islamic Civilisation and the Muslim faith in RE
  • The importance of women during WWII in Year 6
  • The role of the UK in WWII Year 6
  •  Comparing different government structures around the world (and with the past) in Year 5

Our school council:

  • Is made up of democratically elected pupils from each class
  • Meets with the Principal to discuss pupil voice
  • Is encouraged to discuss with their classmates items on an agenda to take back to other meetings
