At Harris Academy Kent House we believe Physical Education and Sport plays an important role in making our vision statement a reality for every pupil, with the potential to change young people’s lives for the better. As well as the obvious health benefits in PE, our children also learn to develop the qualities of discipline, resilience, communication, team work, and ambition, leading to improved concentration, attitude, and academic achievement.
We have welcomed the Government’s announcement in June 2013 to provide additional funding for 2 years to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. We are committed to using this resource in delivering high quality PE lessons for everyone, in addition to more opportunities for competitive sport and clubs for all our children.
In addition to our curriculum commitments we offer a range of sports and dance clubs during lunchtimes and after school.
All year groups can benefit from football, streetdance, multisports, basketball, cheerleading and cricket clubs. The impact has been greater levels of participation in all sports across the school.
We also use our Sports grant to offer children opportunities to participate in competitive events, run by Harris and also the Local Authority.
Our teachers are able to access CPD sessions to develop their skills in delivering PE sessions.
